I received my order from Noch yesterday. It cost as much to ship as it did to purchase.
I wanted something light weight so I could take it to the shop to play.So no Hirst Arts cast this time.

Image

I cut out a rough base from Pink foam. I am not sure if I want a cave or a stair.

I decided to cut out a base for a Reaper Bones tower at the same time.I had a better idea of what I wanted so I went ahead and textured it with a concrete scrap rock.

Image

Image

Find a rock or a brick and just pound a texture into the foam.It only takes avery few miniates to do this.

Image

I like to mix PVA into black craft paint for a base coat.

Image

I sprinkled the wet paint and PVA with a little sand and blended the sand into the back with a wet brush. I will dry brush it tomorrow after noon.

Oh fantastic! I've always loved that model and you are also one of the best terrain artists on the boards, so it will be a delight to follow your WIP. Maybe I can learn a thing or two... ;-)

Great terrain (I love the idea of beating texture into the foam - has a touch of 'anger management' to it :) )

I had a few minutes this morning for the dry brush.

Image

I used pewter gray as a dry brush contrast to help me see the texture. The sand filled in some of the texture. It may be better to add the sand or some other filler at a later stage.

Image

There are only two colors so far the black base coat and the gray dry brush. I will add more texture and more color during the week.

Image

The Bones Model was stamped with a sponge with a dark burnt umber before the pewter gray dry brush.

Image

Image

Reaper's illustration I have not looked into the ID of the painter.

I will post some more during the week as I decide what to do with the Ziterdes model

The glue and craft paint mix has dried for two days. It is time to augment the texture. I used a razor to cut a line into the foam where I wanted the steps.I pulled the stair sections out with my fingers. The tear out looks horrible at this stage.

Image

I used my thumb to crush the foam along some of the fractures caused by pounding the foam with a brick.

Image

I will need to repaint some of the sections where the foam has been shaped. I will let this dry and dry brush again when I get home.

My scan disk failed and I lost the photo with the blending brown and black for the new base coat.

Image

It is not dry enough to dry brush yet. You can see some of the rock texture even without a dry brush.

Image

The black /brown and glue mix over the foam tear out.

I am going to cut a new base for the Ziterdes model I have not decided yet how I want to make it. I have lots of the Pink foam scraps.

Image

Mike wants to use the model for a Pathfinder campaign. I will need to use a circle cutter and add abasement.I will try that next week.

The dry brush

The dry bush brings out the detail and provides base for flocking textures.

Don't judge the miniature by the paint job in the review. You will get a much better result if you prime the miniatures.

Nice work. I have been thinking lately that I need to make a suitable hill for my Forgeworld Weathertop.

I have to make some room to store / display something that big.

I have lost count of the number of terrain projects you have shown us. Puts the rest of us to shame really :)

I painted most of my LOTR models years ago. So Terrain is the only new thing I have to show.

When you retire I expect you will catch up 8)

A new video from my Youtube subscription.

I have not used the rolled foil method for texturing insulation foam. It looks like a good idea.

I got side tracked by a new game. I have a lot of new molds on the way from 4 bot and Hirst Arts. I am thing about a hobbit town bridge and mill. I will get a non LOTR project finished up and have some new photos of the hill shortly.
