I've been occupied for last few days and had no time for hobby or browsing forums.
Now, just read comments and I can't believe what you wrote ...
I feel :-D , but also  , as I do not consider myself as great painter. Definitely not...

I think I am just one of "us" , those freaks , who love to seat down in the evenings and relax by jumping into the world of fantasy , LotR or Hobbit and painting collected models.

Anyway...many big thanks for plaudits received.

Hi Folks,
It's been ages since my last post, here. After painting shown above Dweller, I took a break in hobby for many reasons , which were consuming successfully any spare time of my life. Additionally, I realized that I need to make some investment in showcase for figures, as I had no free shelf or space at home to put my painted models or dioramas.
Fortunately, things look better now and I can seriously think about coming back to our LoTR & Hobbit world :D
Glass made showcase has been bought last month, Led lights installed and now I only need to hang it on the wall and start filling in with stuff:
Image

What is referring restart of hobby, I decided for risky "high jump into an ocean" without any warm up done with smaller or easier challenge.
I want to make an diorama with scene named "Attack on the Weathertop" from Fellowship of the Ring movie.
The truth is that for many years I was thinking about this one and all because of seen for my own eyes a superb OOP ForgeWorld Amon Sul ruins.
Click to: Show
Image

As all we know, these are not available anymore and can be found only on auctions for crazy money, so I try to build my own piece with reasonable budget.
I've collected many pictures of FG model, documented parts included in set and I found also a great tutorial made by guy nicknamed "Dagorlad" some years ago, which will be my the most comprehensive guide for this project.

OK...after (too) long intro  , let me show the first steps made yesterday.
I have created a base plan in CAD program to determine best size for diorama:
Image

Here are all collected actors of the scene (Strider - Aragorn with Torch - is still in bag, not assembled).
Image

First cut made in depron plate - an inner circle of temple.
In next step, I did a thin layer of sculpt modelling paste on it, to make realistic floor cuts.
Image
Image

Here are final results after clay is dried. Additionally, I have sprayed whole surface with Woodland Scenic Cement for "concreting" the structure and easier painting.
Image

Next step will be stairs...progress to be reported during weekend (I hope).

Moving forward with work.

Weekend was quite busy with other activities, so I have only managed to find few hours during today. Fortunately, it was enough to complete 4 parts of stairs which will encircle main arena.

I have used depron 6mm to cut pieces and glue them into stairs.
Image

Image

Then, again I have used sculpt modeling paste and covered stairs with thin layer to get more "natural stone" look.
After it's dried , I have shaped blocks as it was in original ForgeWorld model.

to be continued...

Everything looks great. 8) Looking forward to seeing Weathertop finished. Is there any way you could take a close up of your Witch-king on fellbeast? I'm particularly interested in the mouth. :) That is what stands out from such a far shot.

After some silence, I wish to share some pics of just finished set of Great Beast of Gorgoroth.
Unfortunately, Waethertop is temporary on hold due to some reasons, but fortunately it does not mean a "divorce" from hobby.
I am still trying to clean my painting backlog and here is the latest effort.

Must say in honest, it was a challenge for me due to yet again battle with sooooo hated resin/finecast made models as many of them had some failures like not clearly casted parts or air bubbles.

And maybe it is not a masterpiece, but I like it once finished ;-)

A lot of commitment is needed to finish a model like this, kudos!
I particularly like the skin tone. The first one I got a few years ago was a terible cast, I know what you mean, half the orcs were useless and the chain on the beast itself was Devlan Mud. The rest I got in later years were superb, though.

Really like the skin tone of the beast. The orc with the pike contrasts super well with the beast. Maybe you could share your beast skin colours?

Many, many thanks for so positive comments :-)
What is referring color scheme (especially beast's skin), I had one target set before I've started painting: to make it different from standard/known gray(isch) scheme and especially to avoid same/very similar color as on the Mumakil.
So...I've improvised :)

GreatKhanArtist wrote:

Sure...fortunately, as I didn't knew how it end up after all, I did some notes (what I usually never do 8) ) :
- stage one - Vallejo primer grey
- stage two - "solid" layer of mixed VGC Elfic Flesh 72098/Scale75 Inktense Chesnut ink/Scale75 Inktense Black ink/water (ratio 10:1:1:3)
- stage three - applied thinned wash of Agrax Earthshade (my mix ratio water to wash was 2:1)
- stage four - highlights with heavily thinned VGC Elfic Flesh (don't remember ratio)
- stage five - very very gently applied several weathering powders/pigments to break still plain skin color in random areas

That's my secret :E

Only 3 years of waiting for it's turn... :-p
Just finished Winged Nazgul in SL version:

Set is customizable as both heads and riders are supplied with small magnets and can be easily replaced, giving up to four different combinations. So far, I've painted one head and rider. Second pair to be finished during weekend.

Superb work particularly for such a dark paint scheme.

Thanks for your comments, folks!
I appreciate these.

Well, as you know, I did not invent the wheel by this color scheme, which is nothing else like copy of GW model box picture. However, I must admit I like it and that's why decided to paint my model same way.

Love the beast of gorghorot and the nazgul as well, both looking super cool!

The gw one (winged nazgul) don't havethe contrast you did to it, you painted the wing more bright and also the flaming sword stand out better!

 Thanks man.
I can say exactly same words, when I look at your models.
(if not mistaken, I remember you did these great Halloween conversions, which were fantastic).
