Ever since I got back into the swing of things I haven't been able to see a project through to the end. Hopefully this is the one! This will eventually be part of a larger Osgiliath-esque city. Arriving shortly should be a small fortune of Hirst Arts molds to further assist in the construction!

I hope to either put a tree or statue in the middle of the dome. A statue seems like the most obvious choice, but who knows.

Let me know what you all think!

Edit: Not really sure how this ended up as a different post distinct from my other thread, I apologize for my unfamiliarity with the forum!

Bit of an update! Just a few columns remain to be cast for the dome! Also, the first floor of a corner piece to the board is nearly completed.

I should have both of these pieces done in the next few days, keep an eye out for more updates! Let me know what you guys think.

Looking absolutely brilliant!! I can see this turning out to be a stunning Osgiliath board. I just wish I had the space to store stuff like this personally (and the talent to make it now I come to think of it)

Small update on the corner building!

All that remains to be constructed is the roof (partially done) and some decorative pieces.

Going forward I'm going to work on the uniformity of my casts. Thus far I haven't had too many issues, but I would like the lines to be a bit cleaner. Also, interlocking bricks where I can will be more of a focus, it was a little difficult on the end corners of this one due to the pillars used for doorways.

Additionally, the dome is coming along, only 4 pillars need to be cast!

Let me know what you all think!

Looks great! You will find from time to time that the blocks just don't want to interlock nicely. Most of the time, I don't think it's even that noticeable. If it really bothers you, glue some moss along part of the wall and call it vines. They work great to draw the eye away from your oops.

A long overdue update!

Here are some views from the front. The "courtyard" as I am referring to it is surrounded by a low wall. In front of the wall will be a small hedge that runs around the perimeter of the wall, with gaps at the walkways on either side of the courtyard.

These are shots from the back. I'm not sure if I mentioned this before, but this will be a corner piece to the board (hence the open back). There will be columns propping up the second level, and (possibly) a staircase.

I may end up not including a staircase simply out of laziness, we'll see...

This is pretty much my perfect ideal for how a LOTR board / building / ruin should look.

One day when I have my own space I want to get those moulds and make some ruins in this style.

I highly recommend them. I was hesitant to buy them at first, but they have honestly been worth every penny. I am a dedicated customer at this point. More updates to come soon!

Staircases are easy to build, especially if you have the bridge mold. You should definately make one. They are also fun to play on and if you use the 1" square floor tile, you don't have to worry about minis falling off.

p.s. Love the board so far!

A few more quick updates for you guys. Nothing too monumental, just some color added to the floors. I used quarter inch by half inch strips of balsa wood and then stained them with a dark stain. I'm going to give them a second coat for a little better coverage.

In regards to the staircase; I have the mold, I even have a staircase cast. Part of the reason I am avoiding putting it into the building is because there would not be very much room left for figure placement and maneuvering on whichever side it goes (due to the set up of the building).

Looking very nice. Do some drybrush with a lighter color across the floors and even with balsa wood it looks good. Understand your conflict with regarding the staircase - bottom line - how much will it add to the playability?

(you need to edit your subject line in your first entry with the correct date to get it to show in responses)

The plan is to hit it with a light drybrush once everything else is painted and the finishing details are being applied.

As for playability, I think having the staircase (in lieu of just saying "move the model to this corner to get it upstairs, using 3" of movement" or what have you) would be a detriment to the playability due to the lack of space.

More updates to come tonight. I'm looking to have the roof fully constructed and a basecoat applied by tonight!

Dude! This is such a cool layout! I have never thought of doing a front/back like that where both are so playable... This has my gears spinning
