To me it also seemed logical that shooting the back rows should be on a 6+, as presumably there should be a "dark cloud" in front of them obscuring line of sight, even if they're not directly in the cloud. But maybe one for a future FAQ.
Roll to pass as if barrier, as it is what it essentially acts as... 1-5 you hit the cloud.
