I've taken an interest in Gondor recently and have been enjoying reading everything I can about it on the tolkien gateway website. The gaming potential for it's wars with the southrons and easterlings is immense.

The below are some quick and ragged conversions but they do the trick. The commanders and banner bearers are for my existing units. The elite guys will act as some kind of bodyguard/Citadel Guard unit. I'm currently mulling over adding wing decoration to their helmets...

... and while I deliberate, I'm prepping more of the plastic warriors of conversion into some characters. Pics of them at a later date.

Wow! Those are really smoothly modelled capes. How did you do them so nicely? Did you sculpt them separately and what material? Can't wait to see your custom characters.

Thanks. All sculpted on the miniature with procreate epoxy putty. I do them in two stages - first is with a flat piece to get the basic shape, and once cured I go in with a second layer and sculpt the folds and creases.

I also lengthened the tunics to fall below the knee but decided not to do any detail, i'll paint in some piping or a pattern instead.

I considered starting a new blog but decided to simply 'reboot' this one...

I'm working on an Alternative of the Rings project, some of it will be "what if ?" versions of miniatures and characters, but mostly it's about a narrative running parallel to the canon during the War of the Ring.

Forming a Fellowship

- Knight of Arnor
- Dunedain Ranger
- Broadbeam Dwarf
- Arthedain Archer

Paint jobs over the next few days...

Cool! What campaign are you going to be playing?

I don't play very often so it's mostly a modelling project, but I might game it using original scenarios.

Rangers of Shadowdeep also served as an inspiration so I could use that ruleset and campaign.

I love Rangers of Shadow Deep. The creator also is a big Middle Earth fan, which you can see on his blog. You can call that a quick paint job; I think it looks fantastic. My favorite is the Arnorian.

Thank you.

I've had some correspondence with Joe M (author of RoSD) over the years.

I'd like to do a Middle Earth mod for it... I wonder if there's interest on this forum in collaborating and housing the project here?

WIP on some zombies, plastic Rohan Warriors as a base with heads and arms sculpted.

I'm always a bit iffy about tainting the Tolkien world with zombies and vampires and what not... but done in a certain style and tone it can be OK. Really like how these turned out.

Planning on making 3 or 4 more. When I paint them I'll add some mud texture to the cloaks as if they just crawled up out of the swamp.

I don't think it's that odd to have zombies and vampires in Middle Earth. When I was contemplating using LoTR figs for RoSD, I was going to use the spectres for zombies. There are also the barrow wights and stalkers. The wraiths are essentially vampires; they just take your energy and use morgul blades instead of fangs.

Yeah I'm taking the dead marsh spectres as inspiration for my zombies here. Also going to simply do orcs for the gnolls, uruks for the gnoll sergeants and goblin town goblins for the ghouls.

Final pre-painting shot of the undead. I made more to take the basic group up to 8, and one additional with a helmet and sword who will act as a character.

I miss sculpting as this smaller scale and for personal use, hopefully I can get more time to do LOTR themed stuff in the future.

These guys are amazing! I wish you could see your sculpts, I'd buy them. I don't have a favorite, they're all so good.

Thanks GreatKhanArtist.

Here's some paint jobs on the zombies (4 more to go). I need to fix an extra bright streak on the red coat of the central guy at the next painting session.

I quite like them: very basic and messy. Colour wise I want to try and get a diluted watercolour feel like the artwork of Alan Lee for this project... coupled with lots of texture and grime.

Next up I'm going to make some spiders, rats and vultures (I don't have any bats or crows to hand).

They look fantastic, you did a great job! I also like the colours you used on them, giving me some inspiration for my Rohirrim
