Hi all

Many years ago I played the game and I loved it now I intend to pick it up again

I really liked the hunters of azog and I would like to know if you can help me in choosing the initial purchases and which ones are better. I usually play around 500 points

For Azog's Hunters, a good initial purchase is going to be a box of hunter orcs of foot, a box of hunter orcs of fell wargs, a box of fell wargs, the Narzug and Fimbul captain pack and then probably Bolg. That would give you a pretty good core set of warriors to work with and the better heroes that the list has to offer.

Azog himself is also worth considering. You could swap him for Bolg without much trouble but I would only get one of the two as a start since you won't use both at the same time at 500pts. I favored Bolg because of the morgal arrows he give the hunter orcs that help them lean into their shooting more.

Welcome back Chapuzas. I agree with the above, personally I would rather have Bolg than Azog at 500pts but it is down to preference really.

Basically what Wan Shi Tong said, I'll add my experience with Azog's Hunters.

Hunter Orcs can be very powerful, they do kill lots. Be ready for them to die lots too. They do good shooty-shooty (that's a big part of why I prefer Bolg, he helps with that), and they love doing stabby-stabby.

The first game I used Bolg, though it's not necessarily the norm, he got dismounted before he could get his first kill. I was sad. Then he proceeded to walk through my opponent's entire army and get quite a bit over 10 kills entirely on foot, and basically by himself. Bolg is pure badass. Azog is harder to dismount and starts with more Might points (thanks to the White Warg), but I definitely like Bolg better.

You can fit 25-ish Hunter Orcs with Bolg and another hero at 500 points, maybe a little more. At that points level, there really isn't much that can stand up to Bolg or Azog. Very fun army, fun mechanic, absolute blast using those heroes, and actually scales up really well if you're into allying the Dark Powers of Dol Guldur at higher points levels.
